Industrious 15 Minutes of Fame: Meet Brent & Kelley!

1) What (who) brought you to Industrious?

Brent had been a member at another CrossFit gym since 2010 but the evening commute traffic started to really impact his schedule. While he loved the other gym, Industrious was significantly closer and rated really well, so he joined in 2015? Kelley was at that same gym in 2012 but never felt like it was a good match for her. When Brent joined Industrious, he told Kelley all about it and said she would love it. She was skeptical, but after her dad passed away, she did some soul-searching about health concerns. She joined in April 2016 and hasn’t looked back!

2) What is the most significant change you have experienced since you have been here?

That’s so hard to choose because there have been so many changes but the most significant for both of us are physical changes. Brent had struggled with double-unders for almost six years before the “penguin-tap” coaching caused a breakthrough for him. Kelley has shed 30 pounds and gained a lot strength and flexibility which makes every day life just so much easier!

3)  What is your favorite thing about Industrious?

There is a pursuit of excellence at Industrious that we haven’t experienced anywhere else. That’s not a dig at any other gym, it’s just noticeably elevated at Industrious. The programming, the coaches, the cleanliness and quality of the equipment, it all contributes to us bringing our A-game to each class. As soon as the music hits us, it’s time to get to work, and everyone in there seems dedicated to Working Hard and Living Fit. The old saying is “misery loves company” but we think “commitment loves community!”

4) What are your goals or aspirations for this year?

Kelley is working on getting handstands and kipping pull-ups, movements she hasn’t had since high school. Brent is determined to get a ring or bar muscle-up this year!

5) Share one thing we do NOT  know about you!

We are race car drivers! Since 2008 we participate in the amateur endurance racing series 24 Hours of Lemons and Lucky Dog Racing League with cars we sponsor through our company, Autosport Labs. These are physically demanding and long races, typically 7 to 8 hours long (sometimes 24!). Before CrossFit, a one-hour stint in the car would be exhausting but now a two-hour can feel effortless. Fitness has definitely changed every minute behind the wheel and in supporting the team from outside the car as well. Our cars are currently out of commission for this season but we will return!
