INDUSTRIOUS 15 MINUTES OF FAME: MEET AMBER!
1) What (who) brought you to Industrious?
The 2017 CrossFit Open brought me to Industrious! And I’m so glad it did! Back in January, I had barely been doing crossfit for a year, and was already feeling burnt out. I felt like I wasn’t making any progress towards my fitness goals and the energy at the gym I was at left me feeling super negative and unmotivated. With the open looming, I started doing some research and heard about Industrious’s Friday Night Lights. I stopped in for a workout a week or two before the first workout was released, and a couple people told to me to come back for FNL. I showed up for 17.1, super nervous, and after getting to see the energy of the Industrious community, left that night knowing I would be going back (almost) every day.
2) What is the most significant change you have experienced since you have been here?
While I’ve obviously made a lot of physical progress since coming to Industrious, I think the most significant change has been mental. I love coming here. I love the members, the coaches, the workouts, all of it. I am humbled every time I walk through those doors. I had such a negative attitude about where my fitness was before I came to Industrious. I would get comically upset about failing a lift or not doing as well as I wanted too in a workout. Now it’s different. Last week during the partner workout, I was laughing hysterically trying to get through those DB clean and jerks. Instead of laying around beating myself up about a workout, I’m running around the gym trying to high five everyone before they leave. The difference in my attitude towards working out is amazing. I look so forward to coming to the gym now, that when I wake up for work at 2:30am, I check the workout for the day before I even get out of bed!
3) What is your favorite thing about Industrious?
The people, of course. I’m a single mom, full time student, and I’m working 3 jobs right now. I am EXHAUSTED every day when I get to the gym. But most days I can’t even get in the door before someone is saying hi. There is no way I would be where I am without the members and coaches pushing me. Whether it’s the coaches telling me I can actually do that awful Grace/Thruster/Isabel workout RX, or being super extra and falling on the ground when I make a lift, or not breaking my legs when I make the same error in weightlifting everyday. And, of course, they’re all the people who are suffering through it with me. I literally almost ugly-cried a few weeks ago because so many people stayed after class to cheer me on while I finished a workout. The community here is something else!
4) What are your goals or aspirations for this year?
135# Snatch, 175# C&J, and gymnastics, gymnastics, gymnastics!
5) Share one thing we do NOT know about you!
Ummm…..I once ate the entire 12 egg omelette at Beth’s Cafe?
