Industrious 15 Minutes of Fame: Meet Minh!
What (who) brought you to industrious?
CFI’s weightlifting program initially brought me to Industrious. I was a member at a different affiliate and had ruptured my Achilles. After surgery and 3 months of PT, I was ready to start lifting weights again. Unfortunately I was not allowed to do that at my affiliate. I really wanted to get back to weightlifting so I signed up for the Industrious weightlifting program. Two months into the weightlifting program I decided to give their crossfit program a try. It was a no brainer after that. I knew Industrious was where I wanted to be.
What is the most significant change-whether social, physical, mental… you have experienced since you have been here?
I’ve been at CFI for about 5 years now, give or take a month or so. As I reflect on the answer to this question, I would say the most significant change that I’ve experience while being part of Industrious would be a growing sense of self. My self-identity, awareness and perspective have grown tremendously over the years here. I learn a little bit more about myself with each passing year. I learn about my body’s limitations and strengths. I find myself laughing at my mishaps (not something I did 5 years ago) and being happy or excited for other’s accomplishments. I grow in an understanding of what feeds my happiness and what harms it. Seeing others grow in mental and physical strength feeds my happiness. Feeling angst about something I think I cannot do harms my psyche. The physical and mental challenges that I’ve experienced and seen at Industrious have given me a greater sense of myself. I find myself liking the physical and emotional person that I’ve become because of Industrious.
What is your favorite thing about industrious?
My favorite thing about industrious is the positively high energy I am hit with every time I walk through the door. The culture of Industrious is one of community and inclusion. Whatever day or whatever time you arrive, you are greeted with smiles, welcomes and encouragement. Negativity may come out of your mouth, but it’s immediately squelched with cheerfulness and optimism. This is AMAZING at 5 am in the morning! I leave with warmhearted good-byes and “Thanks for coming Miss Minh!” I feel appreciated for my presence, my effort and my participation. This is a very sweet and real feeling – a feeling of belonging.
What are your goals or aspirations for this year?
I am currently in re-hab mode. I just want to enjoy myself and improve in whatever it is I am able to do at Industrious. I have no hard set goals. I want to listen to my body and enjoy the ride.
Share one thing we do not know about you?
There are so many things that people do not know about. I am a bit of an enigma and this may be because I am an introvert with extroverted tendencies.
