INDUSTRIOUS 15 MINUTES OF FAME: MEET CASSIE!
1) What (who) brought you to Industrious?
I first noticed that a CrossFit gym was going to be opening in the early fall of 2011. I was in my car on Hwy 99 at the corner of 216th waiting for the stoplight and noticed this ridiculously muscular guy (Stephen) standing on a ladder attempting to hang a banner on the front of the building. I had been doing long distance running for a few years and was not looking forward to spending another Seattle winter running alone in the cold rain, so I began researching CrossFit. Not too long after that, I was at that same stoplight and saw this fit redhead (Piper) and another muscular guy (Ben) sprinting together down to the corner and back, and I decided that I needed to try something different. I walked into my first “On Ramp” class in October and met Molly, Stephen, plus Katie R. – another Boise transplant and the ONLY other person in the class. I was scared as hell and pretty sure that my time at Industrious was going to be limited to just those first three weeks of On Ramp. Little did I know, I’d still be walking through the Industrious doors almost 6 years later – calling the guy on the ladder, his (then) girlfriend, and that fit couple I saw running down the sidewalk my family.
2) What is the most significant change-whether social, physical, mental…you have experienced since you have been here?
So many things have changed for me since that first day! Obviously my strength has improved dramatically but the biggest change (and the one I had least expected) has stemmed from the relationships I built here. When I started at CFI, I was in a relationship that was unraveling, working from home, and living in a city where I didn’t know many people. I was at a point where moving back to Idaho to be close to friends and family was likely going to be my next move. Thankfully, the physical strength I was gaining through CrossFit and newfound confidence that came with it, combined with the friendships I was building with Molly, Stephen, Mark, Shelby, and others, ultimately gave me a new foundation to stand on. The gym became my home and that tiny Industrious community was my support system. My relationship with the Hunsinger’s is the reason I met my amazing husband, Hayden, and those key members of what started out as my “gym family” have transitioned to my actual family. I feel pretty damn lucky.
3) What is your favorite thing about Industrious?
I love being surrounded by passionate people and there is no shortage of inspiration at Industrious! Beyond the obvious physical transformations, I am constantly inspired by the strong marriages and relationships on display, people tapping into their entrepreneurial spirit and taking risks to start/run successful businesses, people’s parenting skills and the amazing role models they set for their kids, and the genuine care and compassion that so many members have for one another.
4) What are your goals or aspirations for this year?
I definitely have not been as consistent with my attendance over the past year(ish) as I once was so my primary goal is just to get back into a regular routine. From there, I want to focus on rebuilding strength but do so with great mechanics.
5) Share one thing we do NOT know about you!
I am pretty good at sifting through the clothing racks of Marshall’s and TJ Maxx (or any sale rack) to find hidden gems! What can I say, I love a bargain 🙂
